Love the site. I was reading your review for The Monster Squad and I just wanted to let you know that a copy exists at a Blockbuster video store on Bethel Rd. in Columbus , OH .  I thought you would appreciate knowing that at least one copy still exists for rental.

Steve

That's good to here that it's at least out there, somewhere. And why isn't this and Night of the Creeps not out on DVD yet?!?

Hi and congratulations for your excellent site. I'm a translator currently working on the movie "The Ambushers" that someone reviewed on your site (very funny review). I'm translating it into French for cable TV, and I must say I have a hard time finding the right jokes. At one point, there's something I really don't understand in the movie, I'm even wondering if the version I'm working on is complete. They seem to refer to scenes that are not included. Could I ask the person who saw and reviewed the movie about it? That would be very nice. Thank you in advance.

Mathias, from Paris

Bon jour. I'll forward this e-mail on over to Endless Dave who wrote the review for us. Hope it all works out.

'Scuse me, just passing through, but I thought I'd mention that in your excellent spiel on The Monster of Piedras Blancas, you said: "My Spanish is worse than my German but I believe Piedras Blancas means white cliffs. (The Monster of the White Cliffs just doesn't have the same punch does it?)" I thought you might like to know, Piedras Blancas is a real place.  It's up the California coast, just north of San Simeon.  There's a lighthouse there, too. Perhaps the movie was filmed there, I don't know.  But that's where the movie is supposed to take place. Good site.

Beersock

Awesome. Maybe there's a monster-sized dent in the rocks outside the lighthouse where it fell during the climax? That would pretty much confirm it. Thanks for the info.

I just read this page & I might be able to track down ~50 minutes of Gantry Lawrence HULK for you. Still interested? The eps are: Episode one: "A Titan rides the train". "The Horde of the humanoids", "On the rampage" Episode two: "The Power of Dr Banner". "Where strides the behemoth". "Back from the dead". Episode three: "Micro-monsters". "The Lair of the leader". "To live again". It's on VHS in the PAL format ( - 'tho I might be able to arrange an NTSC conversion) and there are some dropouts in some parts - episodes two and three have occasional tracking problems and minor moments of audio dropout. If you're interested, I'd say - from the looks of your fantastic website - you're bound to have something good to trade!

Irving Gribbish

Thanks for the offer, Herb, but I've managed to snag a copy already. Thanks for the compliments. We'll probably get around to finishing out those Gantry/Lawrence cartoons one of these days.

My Family loves scary movies and one of their favorite was Equinox, but all these years they haven’t found it. I helped them look in video stores but no luck. Do you know where I can find this scary movie? I will love to surprise my Granddad & rest of family with it. plus I want to know what they all talking about, that they were so scared of, after The Exorcists" I  haven’t been that scared. Thank you.

David

P.S. I would like Video locations of wherever they have it, in New York City locations.

Well, I can't help you with any locations in New Yawk, but Tapes of Terror has this available if it's not too much of an inconvenience.

I enjoyed the article -review of Massacre at Central High. I costarred as Rodney in that movie back in 1976. It's fascinating that people still view it, discuss it and model their movies after it. We thought it was kind of dumb back then but felt it paralleled the way kids thought themselves older and adult like. Anyway - enjoyed the article.

Rex Sikes

And thank you, Mr. Sikes for dropping us a line. Would you be willing to discuss the movie any further?

I hope you remember me.  I just wanted to thank you once again for your kindness, hard work, and great push you gave "13 Seconds." Because of your help, we were able to finalize a deal for distribution.  I am happy to announce that "13 Seconds" will be available on Special Edition DVD in video stores everywhere on October 19th. Please let me know if you would be interested in a special promotional give away with any of the film's props or special effects pieces, advanced DVDs, posters, etc.  We will be competing with Universal's "Van Helsing," so we wish to promote "13 Seconds" as much as possible. Thanks again for everything. Sincere thanks,

Jeff Thomas

Oh, we remember you, alright Jeff. It was my pleasure to help out all I could. The film was great and I'm glad you found a distributor. Any chance I can get that cigar box full of teeth?

Back from vacation, working on the re-do of the BMR, needed to update a 3-B link, remembered that you had reviewed SCTV, went and read it.  Oh, man.  I, too, was leery of putting that first disc in the player.  I, too, was overjoyed that I had nothing to worry about.  And I too want the rest of the series RIGHT NOW. Something of value to add?  Me?  Naaaaah.

Freeman

Thanks, Doc. Already snagged Volume II and Volume III is due in January of '05 and I'll finally get to see the Battle of the PBS Stars. Any more thoughts on that Comedy of Terrors/The Raven tag team?

Hey, great site!  I'm a writer for IGN (among other places) and I've been working on a super hero piece that traces all of these weird little live action productions that led up to the current big budget hero craze.  The thing I haven't been able to find in anything close to watchable quality is the Legends of the Super Heroes specials.  I read on your site that you don't do dubs and I respect that - I usually don't as a rule, either but I do have a couple of things that I could offer you in trade if you wanted them.  First, I have the Star Wars Holiday Special from the same kind of sat feed that you said it looked like your Super Heroes came from.  Pretty decent quality plus the uncut version of the animated sequence I got from a guy that worked at Nelvana at the time.  I also have a copy of the Fantastic Four film that was given to me by the film's director, Oley Sassone and copied directly from his personal 3/4 U-matic copy (he told me he had to sneak into the studio in the middle of the night to make it as they were going to ship the film off the next day, never to be heard from again). Anyway, hope we can work something out.  I'd also be happy to link to your site from my article when it posts on IGN.

KJB

Hi I know legends of the superheroes was a bad show. But is there any place I could get my hands on a copy. This is one of two that I would like to see the other is Justice League of America made in 1979 but never release. Thanks.

Gerry

The only place that I can find that's got it available, for a darn good price I might add, is Tom's Trade and Tape. I've never dealt with them but you can't really beat it for the price. Good luck, fellas.

Tokyo Drifter is also one of my favorite flicks. Have you seen the Suicide Club?

Sober Robot Boy

Yes I have seen Suicide Club and it made me squirm like a little girl. *bleaugh* Oh, and Tokyo Drifter does, indeed, rule!

I actually saw Eagah on tv once, but I've missed out (sic) on the rest of Arch Hall Jr's oeuvre.  Richard Kiel was in my town this week, in connection with some James Bond thing.  Poor old Jaws is in a wheelchair now, because of a car accident that messed up his sense of balance.  He's given up acting (because he can't stand up for long, and action sequences are out) to concentrate on writing screenplays and books (such as his autobiography Making it big in Hollywood ).  Do you happen to remember the title of a sci-fi movie he made around the same time as Eagah?  He played an alien - of course - sent to Earth to help/kill/abduct? - a scientist.  There's a cute scene where he turns up at the guy's house, and a girl lets him in, and shows no reaction whatsoever to his er, unconventional appearance.  It takes him a couple of minutes to realize  that she's blind!  After he waves one of his pitchfork sized hands in front of her face and she doesn't blink, he figures it out.  And wasn't it Kiel who starred in the famous To Serve Man episode of Twilight Zone?

Sandra

Yup, that was Kiel. He also wore most of the monster suits in the Kolchak series, as well. That film you're thinking of is The Human Duplicators, it's a friggin' hoot and is readily available from our good friends at Hypnotic Video.

Hey there. Great review of "Monster Squad" - and I discovered that I still have it on tape! I copied it from a rental movie so nothing was cut out or edited for TV. (God knows the more-PC-than-thou networks today would probably be offended by the word 'nards') Anyway, I'm not sure how great the quality would be, but I'd be glad to make you a copy of it and send it off if you'd like. Take care,

Brandi

Muchos appreciation on the offer Brandi, and too everyone else who offered me a dub of this film. You folks are way too good to me. I am happy to report that I managed to get my hands on a used VHS copy of this film. It's got a lot of wear on it but it can hold me over until this thing finally gets released on DVD.

I saw on your website that you discuss "Zero Hour!" and "Airplane!"  I am a producer at HBO Sports for the show "On the Record with Bob Costas" and we are doing a panel for this week's show on "Airplane!"  I would love to get a copy of "Zero Hour!" but it hasn't been released on any purchasable format... I saw that it was your policy not to make dubs but if you would break it one time that would be so great, we'd be willing to pay $200 for it.  Please let me know if you could do it, we need it as soon as we could get it, and you are one of the few people out there who has it.  I can be reached at this email or at my office 212-512-5774.  Thanks so much. Sincerely,

R Rohatgi

Must resist. Not equipped. Remember what happened last time you dubbed something for TV. Aaaaaarrrrrggggghhhh!!! Why don't I have a second VCR?!?

HUGHMAX

YOU'RE WELCOME, HUGHMAX. (WHERE'S THE VOLUME CONTROL ON THIS THING?)

First off - lovely site.  I stumble across it digging around for King Kong Escapes goodies...and look forward to snooping' around a bit. Just an odd question...I haven't seen KKEscapes since I was a young lad in the 70's.  I'm pretty sure this was the film, and my early mind may have gotten things mixed up a bit...but wasn't there a Kong movie where they kidnapped Kong off an island on a giant raft?  Like I said - I may be confusing things...I also recall Christopher Lee being in it.  Likely I'm thinking of Kong following the boat out, here, and battling with the serpent.  Any info would be good. Why don't you have a review of War of the Gargantuas?!  I bet your site and writing would do some of these Frankenstein Conquers The World-type movies some justice..! Again - I look forward to exploring your site some more. By the way, tho...the Young Ones quote you have up says "John Heard"...and it's "John Hurt". Cheers, mate - keep up the neat work!

Colin Maguire

You're confusing King Kong Escapes with King Kong vs. Godzilla. In the Godzilla one, they get Kong drunk on fermented berries and haul him back to Japan on a giant raft. I have no idea how Christopher Lee fits in all this although the villain in KK Escapes slightly resembles Lee. I've got an idea percolating about a marathon of Japanese movies called "No 'Zilla? No Problem!" or "No-No Godzilla" and focus on the films without him like the ones you mentioned plus Atragon and Battle in Outer Space. Probably sometime after "JD's and VItalis Slicks" and the long promised William Girdler collection. So many themes, so little time. Oh, and we'll fix that gaffe in the Young One's review. Thanks.

A little bit of inside info on The Worm Eaters-- I got to know Herb Robbins doing community theatre in Lake Tahoe , CA where every summer he produced a family play about  The Big Bad Wolf and his appearances in various fairy tales.  He told me about his masterwork The Worm Eaters. All of the supporting cast were students in his acting class.  Also, every shot of worm eating in the movie is of Herb's mouth, because none of the actors were willing to chew on the things. Herb was a unique character, and it was a pleasure to make his acquaintance.  He always wore  a smelly blue jacket, and spent a lot of his time caring for his sick wife.  His acting method was a bit strange, constantly walking the line between senility and genius, and he definitely made an impression portraying Lazar Wolf in the community college production of Fiddler on the Roof. Regards,

Forest

Oh, man, I would probably have given my left nut to see that production of Fiddler. Herb's a freakin' genius in my book. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the nice web page on Lobster Man from Mars. I ask only one thing --- that you spell my name correctly. All the best,

Stanley Sheff: Director, Lobster Man from Mars

Ack! I totally suck at this. It's time to sack the editor. Oh, wait. That's me. *sigh* So, Mr. Scheff, whoops, Sheff, anything else you'd like to share about your wonderful production?

- - - - -

Just thought I'd drop a line to mention that Stanton Friedman wasn't the only real persona in the film. Michael Shermer is an actual person as well, the president of the Skeptics Society. And just a personal note: disbelieving in alien contact is not the same thing at all as disbelieving in alien life. Whether or not there are life forms on other planets has nothing to do with the likelihood of managing interstellar travel. We've never gotten beyond the moon, but we certainly exist.

Matt Murray

Finally. Someone who agrees with me. Thinking we're all alone in this universe is a very narrow way of thinking in my book. Do I believe that life exists out there, somewhere? Yes. Do I believe they've been here? Maybe. And if they have, I honestly think they're just rubberneckin'.
